Guest Post – Eden Baylee

Horror and Erotica

Jason has generously offered me some space on his blog to talk about my latest book, Spring into Summer — a book of four erotic novellas, two that take place in spring and two in the summer.

I’m thrilled to be on his site for several reasons. Firstly, Jason writes excellent horror and it’s a genre that interests me.

I consider horror and erotica linked in many ways, like two sides of the same coin. Horror and erotica novels may not have similar themes, but they draw strongly on similar emotions of the reader. In many ways, fear can ignite passion as much as sexual arousal can.

“Summer Solstice,” the first story of summer is about a party with pagan influences. The protagonist, Ava Connors attends the party after being in seclusion for a year. She must decide if she can open up again sexually after a painful past. Though the fear of the unknown excites her, how far is she willing to go?

If you’d like to know the answers, I’d be thrilled if you picked up my book and tell me what you think.

Thanks Jason for giving me this opportunity to share about Spring into Summer.

About the book

In Spring into Summer, a collection of emotionally-charged erotic novellas, four women explore their sexual limits, marked by love, lust, and loss.

Life for Claire Pelletier is changed forever when she meets a professor who teaches her a most important lesson in “A Season for Everything.”

Evelyn Sutton goes in search of a man in “Unlocking the Mystery” and discovers the key to her own heart.

With an open mind, Ava Connors attends a party but wonders if reality can ever live up to her hottest fantasies in “Summer Solstice.”

In “The Lottery,” Sierra Zhao sacrifices herself to numerous men to help a friend, fully aware of the consequences.

With locations in London, Dublin, Cape Cod, and Bangkok, these four women will seek pleasure to alter their lives and push their sexual boundaries.

  2. I do notice a link between horror and sexuality, erotica. One of the scariest films, Don’t Look Now, showed Julie Christie and Donald Sutherland as grieving parents in Venice after the loss of their young child, but one of the most shocking aspects for some viewers was the elegant sex scene, because it was so real, calm, and long. Parents covered up their teenagers’ eyes when this scene came on but not the horrific violence of the killer. Even in the recent high-concept sic-fi film Prometheus, sex is linked to taboo and bad consequences: horror. I loved the sexy pagan story Eden tells as one of the four novellas, and I am so happy her inner muse did not censor anything. Great post.

    • Ooh, I’ll have to see that – Don’t Look Now. I can’t recall if I have or not and I love Julie Christie. Thanks for your kind words, Justin. Pagans can be scary , but it’s only because of the mystery surrounding their practices.

    • Hi Justin, thanks very much for stopping by. I think that people tend to get soured on the idea of sexuality in horror because it’s often one step above porn, and really only used to discern who dies next. I would like to see sex used as you’ve described it, and I too have to check out Don’t Look Now.
